Entry requirements
Basic school level biology knowledge is essential. Having attended the Forensic Archaeology course is desirable but not essential. The course will inevitably use to a lot of osteological and medical terms. Given the nature of this course, it may not be suitable for those sensitive about death, bones and disease.
Course description
The course aims to introduce the role of biological anthropology, skeletal pathology and comparative anatomy both in archaeological science and in forensic investigation, and to stress their use for the recording and identification of human skeletons and wildlife crime. It will cover areas such as human anatomy with emphasis on skeletal anatomy, comparison of human vs. animal skeletal remains, age and sex determination, stature calculation, dental recording and disease and different bone pathologies. The course follows a multidisciplinary approach.
